The Aasaaska Foundation is a partner of the JCCP’s Re-Imagining Justice Initiative. The folks at Aasaaska are Black beekeepers and urban farmers with a growing base of hives and partners in CT. Their staff train young Black youth in the art of beekeeping, support the growth of healthy bee colonies in the state, and grow crops they donate to Hartford community sites. They’re looking for a student to help build out their website as well as their social media presence. This student would work on-site with them documenting their work, and virtually on their online presence. Safety equipment would be provided for students.
Oddfellow Playhouse Youth Theater is looking to fill several positions:
After-School Teaching Assistants: Assist in after-school arts programs with kids ages 6 – 14; coordinate Oddbridge activities with Middletown Public School kids, including preparing & serving snacks, helping with homework; lead games and other activities; assist professional teaching artists in classes in theater, dance, circus and visual arts; establish strong relationships with elementary & middle school youth.
Hours: Weekdays, 3:30 – 6 pm and Saturdays, 8:30 am – 1 pm
Number needed: 5-8. Need 2-3 W/S students each weekday & 1 on Saturdays.
Administrative Assistants: Assist in the office of a busy non-profit youth theater. Tasks will depend on skills – some creative, some more mundane. Book keeping, data entry, organizing, program evaluation, mailings, odd jobs as needed.
Hours: Weekdays, 11 am – 4 pm

Graphic Designer/Website Manager: Design flyers, posters, mailings, etc as needed. Create signage around building. Keep website up to date and looking good; upgrade and improve website as agreed upon.
Hours: 6 – 8 hours per week. As scheduled with staff.

Technical Theater Assistant/Shop Manager: Work with our technical director to organize and maintain theater, shop, prop and costume storage. Provide technical support for classes and productions. Maintain tools and equipment. Could use one person with more technical focus (carpentry, lighting, etc) and one focusing more on costumes and props.
Hours: 6 – 8 hours per week, as scheduled with staff.

Assistant to Program Manager/Publicity & Social Media Intern: Work with Program Manager to market events through press, websites and social media. Assist Program Director with other tasks as needed.
Hours: 5-6 hours per week, as scheduled with Program Director

Assistant to the Executive Artistic Director: Work on special projects, fundraising, program development, event preparation and other tasks needed to assist Executive Artistic Director.
Hours: 5- 7 hours per week as scheduled with EAD.

Neighborhood Troupes Assistants: Work as part of a team to plan and carry out weekly theater and dance troupes at Traverse Square and Maplewood Terrace.
Hours: 4 – 6 hours per week, late afternoons and/or Saturday mornings.

Assistant to the Managing Director: Work with the Playhouse’s Managing Director on various elements of office management, including basic bookkeeping, maintenance of records, accounts receivable and payable, filing, financial aid requests, fundraising etc. A great opportunity for someone looking to get involved in non-profit arts management.

Assistant Directors: Two opportunities for folks with some theater experience to serve as Assistant Directors for one of this fall’s theater productions.
Teen Rep: Our Teen Repertory Company (ages 14 -20) is producing Mary Zimmerman’s Journey to the West in November. Rehearsals are Mondays and Thursdays, 6 – 9 pm starting September 12, plus weekly production meetings.
Hours: 8 – 10 hours per week

Mini-production: James and the Giant Peach. This is a studio production for kids ages 9 – 14 which will rehearse Mondays and Thursdays, 4 – 6 pm, starting October 31 with performances December 9 & 10
